mSATA SSD (MO-300)

The maintenance-market part — for POS terminals, networking gear and industrial boards already in the field whose mSATA slot is still the only option. It looks like a mini-PCIe socket and is not one; it runs SATA, and it is here because the machines that need it are still working.

Will it fit your board?

Three questions, each under a minute. Any one of them can rule this drive out — better to find that out here than after the goods ship.

1 Is your slot mSATA, or mini-PCIe?
2 What temperature does the installation see?
3 What kind of writes will the drive see?

mSATA and mini-PCIe look almost identical and are not interchangeable. Same footprint, same connector family, completely different signals. A card in the wrong slot is simply not detected — send us the board model and we will tell you which one it takes.

Performance

SATA III — up to 550 MB/s

550 MB/s sequential read, 500 MB/s sequential write — the practical ceiling of the SATA III interface. This is not a performance drive and it does not pretend to be: it exists because a large installed base of industrial boards, thin clients and all-in-one PCs only has a mSATA slot.

SATA III HDD 70–200 MB/s
SATA III SSD 450–550 MB/s
PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe 2,000–3,500 MB/s
PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe 5,000–7,000 MB/s

Tell us the machine or board model with the enquiry and we will confirm the channel and the standoff before you order.

Every SATA III part on this ladder — 2.5″, M.2 SATA and mSATA — moves data at the same 450–550 MB/s, because the protocol is the limit, not the shape. If the board has a PCIe M.2 slot instead, the NVMe series is several times faster. See the NVMe series

FAQ

Common Questions About mSATA SSDs

Answers to the questions that come up most often before an order. Don’t see yours? Ask us — a datasheet and quote follow within 24 hours.

Is mSATA the same as mini-PCIe?

No. They share a footprint and nothing else — mSATA carries SATA signals, mini-PCIe carries PCIe. An mSATA drive in a mini-PCIe slot is not detected, and no damage is done in the attempt. This is the most common reason an mSATA drive looks dead on arrival.

mSATA has been replaced by M.2 — why do you still make it?

Because the machines are still running. POS terminals, networking equipment, all-in-one PCs and industrial boards built before M.2 took over have an mSATA slot and no way to add another. Those parts get harder to source every year, which is exactly why we keep the line.

How do I confirm my slot is mSATA before ordering?

Look for the words mSATA or MO-300 in the board or machine manual, or send us the model number and we will check it for you. A 50.8 × 29.85 mm footprint held by two screws at the far end is the physical giveaway.

Do you offer a wide-temperature version?

Yes — a wide-temperature build rated −40 to +85 °C, alongside the standard 0–70 °C part. Ask for it on the enquiry; both are built on the same MO-300 board.

Which capacities do you offer?

32 GB to 2 TB. The smaller capacities are still in demand for legacy systems that only need a boot volume, and they cost considerably less — tell us the capacity and we will confirm availability.

Can you do OEM — our logo and our packaging?

Yes. Silkscreen on the label, your own branded box and firmware strings are all settable before the first unit is built. MOQ is 50 pcs for a branded run.
